Earlier today, I sat again in La Stanza cafe debating if I would take a break from a weekly post. Tomorrow through Monday here, we have a long Easter holiday weekend. It’s okay sometimes to let life take over from discipline.
If I were to post, I thought, it would be about the livestream “product release party” to which I listened one evening this week. Two hours discussing new software features created by a self-proclaimed “community of geeks” – rolled out with enthusiasm and commitment (plus quality). No prepared slides. Live demos. Unpolished. Truly valuable. With a continuous side stream of happy chats from 100s of participants. Absolutely charming. (You will read more about them from me later.)
Afterwards I wondered: can it be that tech is actually at this stage in my life becoming a new hobby, as well as part of my profession?!
Then. I found this post at the top of my LinkedIn feed as I sipped my coffee:
“Not every career in technology starts with a plan. Some start with curiosity. And grow through action.”
Highlighted an interview with Katherine Tersago in Swisslinx – Women in IT magazine. Super authentic, worth the read also for a view of leadership. (Katherine and I met years ago through the Professional Women’s Group of Zurich.)
And there was my observation for the week!
- I believe we can say this about MOST CAREERS these days – they start less with a plan and more with curiosity.
- We find new relevance by staying open and following that unexpected interest which pulls us.
Seems to me the perfect thought on which to go into a holiday.
Thank you to the live stream community (coming here later), Swisslinx and Katherine for the inspiration!
